The step to ban Chinese applications was taken by the Indian government to save the data of crores of Indian mobile users. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN )had received complaints from various sources including several reports about misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorised manner to servers which have locations outside India as well as threats like Phishing and Hacking.

IT Ministry’s press release noted that the Home Ministry’s Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre sent a recommendation for blocking these malicious apps.

The main reason for banning of Chinese apps is that the users of these apps showed raging concern about their personal details getting shared without their consent along with loss of data and other security concerns.

In short these applications posed threat to the country's sovereignty and security thus the Chinese apps were red flagged and banned.

The citizens of India were avid users of many of these apps but showed tremendous support with this decision of the government.
